Clinical symptoms of the patients with COVID-19 are mostly included in fever, cough, fatigue, sputum production, dyspnea, sore throat, and headache. At present, there are few antivirus strategies in particular, but several strong antivirus medicines are being urgently studied. At present, there is no definite and specific treatment for this disease, and antivirus medicines applied in severe cases are mostly related to the treatment of other known viruses such as HIV and flu. Hence, their evident treatment effects were not reported well. On the one hand, in milder cases that do not need hospitalization, there is the possibility of improvement for the disease period.
Antivirus medicines: The medicine of this category act with three mechanisms: 1- Inhibition of virus replicase 2- Inhibitor of ion channel and 3- Serine- Protease inhibitors. Available commercial medicines are classified into four categories: medicines of anti-HIV, anti-herpes, anti-hepatitis, and anti-influenza.
Anti-malaria medicines: These medicines are also divided into three categories based on the mechanism of their effects: Ariel Amino Alcohol, Anti-Folate, and Artemisinin Compounds. Most of these medicines are deleted from the body.
Anti-HIV medicines: These medicines are classified based on their purposes in different modes: the inhibition of inverse translation, Protein lysis processes, prevention of connecting virus to the cell, receptor interference, and disorder in combining virus genome with host cell genome.
Monoclonal antibodies: Due to the importance which ACE-2 receptor has in the pathogenic process of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, the antibodies against this receptor are made with the purpose of decreasing the severity of COVID-19 disease.
Anti-inflammatory medicines: Severe inflammatory response is observed in COVID-19 disease. Anti-inflammatory medicines, especially JAK/STAT inhibitors, which are used for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, may be affected by the increased amount of Cytokines which is occurred during this disease and it is known as Cytokine storm. The results of Stebbing et al. study showed that the prescription of baricitinib anti-inflammatory medicine along with Remidesivir antivirus medicines causes to decrease in the severity of COVID-19 disease.
